THE LOST PAGES | GOD OF WAR
PlayStation’s God of War changed everything for its 2018 release. Fans were skeptical, but we knew we could convert them if we gave them a new bible. So we created The Lost Pages of Norse Myth.
These lost pages were revealed over nearly a year with a podcast, a chatbot game, AR experience, videos, and hundreds of social posts. It gained press coverage every month, picked up several awards, and God of War became the fastest-selling PS4 game of all time.
THE GAME BEFORE THE GAME
We dropped fans into the world with a text adventure on Facebook Messenger. It had a new story, all kinds of easter eggs, and exclusive art. Polygon even called it “the perfect jumping off point for Sony’s new game.”
AN ORIGINAL PODCAST
We created a podcast with fresh God of War lore alongside interviews with God of War’s developers. The stories we wrote bridged the game’s mythology, and became part of the series canon. Listen to the full 8-episode podcast series, or a sample below.
TEASING A BOSS BATTLE
We brought one of the in-game triptychs to life to tell the story of The Dead Stonemason.
An All-OUT CONTENT ASSAULT
We teased characters, environments, storylines, and more—as fans speculated over every detail.
RESULTS
God of War became the fastest-selling PS4 game ever, the campaign picked up several awards, and Norse mythology was never the same. Our chatbot game was even ranked as the #7 God of War game of all time by Polygon. That’s not last!
